oldest couple

Get out your hankies.

After 81 years of marriage, Frank Milford passed away holding his wife’s hand. According to the Daily Mail Frank and Anita met in 1926 at a dance in Plymouth. After their wedding on May 26, 1928, they went out to see a Charlie Chaplin film.

As Britain’s oldest living married couple, they said the secret to their long and happy marriage was “‘give and take’ and making up after rows with a kiss and a cuddle.”

They stayed in Plymouth and eventually had two children, five grandchildren and seven great grand children. They did not abandon their home during WWII, even though a German bomb fell on their house.

Although both were 101, their son said that Frank was still “sharp as a tack” and had kept his sense of humour. He had been not well for several weeks and his passing away was not a surprise to his family.

In February the two would have claimed the record as the UK’s longest married couple. The record, set by Thomas and Elizabeth Morgan, is 81 years and 260 days.
