Mick // A new German safe-sex ad campaign is causing all kinds of controversy by portraying women having sex with mass murderers like Hitler and Stalin. The point is to make people aware of the dangers of unprotected sex.
It has been criticized for equating people with AIDS with genocidal dictators. While the ad agency, Das Comitee, claims that the shock tactic is important to raising awareness of the disease, it lacks any prevention advice.
The television spot is basically soft core porn for 38 seconds before the man turns his face to the camera to reveal that he is Hitler. The poster campaign also includes Joseph Stalin and Saddam Hussein.
While I appreciate that the agency has promoted these ads as a public service, it seems to me like they are more about advertizing the agency than about stopping the spread of this deadly disease.
