Religious Teens Have Most Babies

September 21, 2009 No Comments

Results of a study show that the most religious American states also have the highest teenage birth rates.

As childish as it seems, I can’t help thinking “I told you so!”

With abstinence-only programs teaching young people only the failure rates of birth control methods, they would not have the confidence to buy them, let alone use them with any accuracy.

Researchers said “We conjecture that religious communities in the U.S. are more successful in discouraging the use of contraception among their teenagers than they are in discouraging sexual intercourse itself.”

Hopefully Obama’s support of comprehensive sexual health education, along with this study and others like it showing that abstinence-only education does not work, will lead to conservatives taking a more pro-active and realistic look at what they teach their young people.

I think conservative adults need to stop being so paranoid about their young people having sex and realise that their methods of teaching sex education hurt, rather than help, their children.
