Polanski Arrested For Sex With A Minor

Mick // Roman Polanski has been arrested for having sex with a 13 year old girl in 1977. The director was taken into custody as he landed in Switzerland on the way to the Zurich film festival, Saturday night.
Swiss government officials would not comment, but referenced the extradition agreement between the United States and Switzerland. A warrant for his arrest was issued in 1978 after he plead guilty.
The director has been living in France, where he fled to avoid his sentence.
In 1977 Samantha Geimer claimed he raped her during a modeling session. She said he gave her champagne and part of a Quaalude and then forced her to have sexual intercourse, as well as oral sex and sodomy. She has since sued him and received an undisclosed settlement.
Polanski pled guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse, one of the six charges. He was sent to prison for 42 days and lawyers agreed that would be his full sentence. The judge in the case, however, disagreed.
The director was on his way to receive an award at the Zurich film festival. His arrest was called “not only a grotesque farce of justice, but also an immense cultural scandal,” by the Swiss Directors Association.
It’s called the long arm of the law precisely because it can reach over 32 years and two continents. It looks like the Swiss government isn’t willing to overlook the fact that his man is a fugitive from justice for allegedly drugging and raping a child.
He remains in Swiss custody, although he likely will use all of his power and celebrity to get out of it.
