Mick // Almost half of British women prefer drunken sex and one in 20 have never had sex sober, according to a new survey.

More worrying is that three out of four women like a couple of glasses of wine before sleeping with their boyfriend or husband, and 14 percent need it.

Why does it take Dutch courage to slip between the sheets?

Half of the women questioned said they preferred sex while drunk because it helped them remove their inhibitions and three quarters said a couple of glasses allowed them to go wild. Which explains why two out of five women are always a little drunk before hooking up the first time.

A shocking one in 20 women has never had sex sober.

This is particularly alarming because of the hook-up culture prevalent in the UK. Condoms become a tiny detail after a couple of beers, and getting tied to the bed-posts by a stranger can seem like fun after 10 shots.

Three thousand women were surveyed and the average had slept with eight men, and five of them while under the influence. On at least two of these occasions they couldn’t remember the guy’s name the next morning.

This is just so sad. Sex is one of life’s great pleasures and I don’t understand why they would want to blunt that. What I find a little scary is that most women would feel they need a drink before sleeping with their long-term partner.

Femfresh, who carried out the survey, blamed poor body image for the female reticence. Everyone feels a little nervous the first time with some one new, but if you can’t relax with your partner, are you ever comfortable with yourself?

Forget about the bits that are flopping around and that you are red in the face. Sex is not performance art.
