The ’80s Make Barbie Cool Again

Joan Jett Doll

Mattel is introducing a new line of Barbies called Ladies of the 80s.

Joan Jett, Debbie Harry and Cyndi Lauper will all be lending their glamour to the plastic dolls.

While it will introduce a new generation of fans to the music, I have a feeling that the Barbie needs more help with her branding than these stars do.Cyndi Lauper Doll

I was a bit disappointed that Debbie Harry looks like a generic rockstar Barbie, but the other two dolls are tres cool.

Although it is an obvious marketing ploy, I have to say that it kinda worked. I want one. And if I had a daughter clamouring for Barbie, I could probably bend my feminist rules for one of these dolls.
