A Japanese man has married his girlfriend. They met playing Love Plus, a dating simulation game.

The catch is that she doesn’t exist outside the game.

Last weekend he married her in real life, with the assistance of a priest. It is believed to be the first wedding between a man and a video game.

The game, Love Plus, has men woo and then maintain his relationship with a girlfriend. Many of it’s players say it is quite addictive, especially as the characters get angry if you leave them along for too long without attention.

The ceremony was broadcast live online and was attended by a human best man and a virtual bridesmaid. Many well-wishes sent their regards but several found the seriousness of the occasion rather creepy.
