Scientists Help Gibbon Apes Find Love

December 9, 2009 No Comments

Gibbon apes mate for life and scientists have set up a ‘dating agency’ to help them find love and repopulate their numbers.

These apes are often captured and kept as pets illegally in parts of Asia but scientists are helping them get back into the dating scene by re-releasing them into the wild.

Unusually among apes, a male and female gibbon will mate and remain faithful to one another for life, reaffirming their bond with complex mating songs.

BBC has a video of the scientists explaining this situation here.
