Mary Poppins Likens Singing To Sex

Dame Julie Andrews, famous for films like The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins, has found her voice for the first time since 1997 when an operation ruined her vocal chords.
She will perform a one-off concert in London in 2010, which will, by her description of singing and sex, leave her fully satisfied and glowing.
In her biography Home, she said singing was “as addictive as opium” and “like sex before the moment of climax”.
She said it still gave her great pleasure but was now “warm, glowing, it’s, if you really want it, it’s that moment after sex when you say ‘Ah, great’”.
This reminds me of the time when I saw Mary Poppins as an adult, and after many years, and discovered that the film is a bit of a drunken hallucinatory dream for adults. Her favorite drink is Rum Punch, she sings and dances wherever she goes, the animals talk to her in a magical fantasy land, she flies and can walk on the ceiling, and Bert (Dick Van Dyke) is also a bit loopy and keeps changing character.
Ever since I saw this film again I have had a special place in my heart for Disney and Mary Poppins and I hope to see many more hallucinatory stories disguised as kids films.
