All Men Are Perverts, According To British Airways Official Policy

January 18, 2010 3 Comments

British Airways bans men from sitting next to children they don’t know.

Mirko Fischer was in the middle seat between his wife and a 12 year old child when a flight attendant ordered him to change seats, forcing his pregnant partner into the cramped middle seat.

He is now suing the airline for sex discrimination.

The Daily Mail reported Mirko Fischer as saying:

This policy is branding all men as perverts for no reason. The policy and the treatment of male passengers is absolutely outrageous.

A plane is a public place  -  cabin crew regularly walk down the aisles and passengers are sat so close to each other. The risk of any abuse is virtually zero.

Furthermore statistically children are far more likely to be abused by a member of their family. Does that mean that BA are going to ban children sitting next to their own parents?

I was made to feel like a criminal in front of other passengers. It was totally humiliating.

Well said. Penises do not make perverts.

This is absurd! We are not going to have true equality in a feminist world until both men and women are treated with respect and not judged based on their sex. I can’t believe this policy exists! I hope Mr. Fischer wins his case. (Mack)

I could not agree more. Not long ago, I was also reseated in an extraordinarily unfriendly fashion, to say the least, based on the same policy, but in a plane owned by a different airline (Lufthansa, who would please sue them?). This is a ridiculous manifestation of a fearful and overprotective totally paranoid attitude which quite frankly treats the rights of people like shit.

How can one simply assume that somebody is a criminal based on the fact that he simply happens to be a man? This surely clashes with basically every constitution of every civilized country (and I cannot believe that Mr Fisher would not win such a case in such countries such as the UK or Germany).

All the best for him. Maybe people also take this as an opportunity to rethink to what extent such a fearful society is what we want. Those who think that fear is morally indifferent should spend a few minutes with that topic.

    Oh get over yourselves!

I was very nicely told of this policy by a British Airways stewardess when I was seated next to an unaccompanied boy on a BA flight.

I was asked to move, so what. I didn’t feel embarassed, why would I? This is the world we live in and children need protection and the right to a worry free flight.
