Thanks Honey, But I’d Rather Spend The Night With Fido — One Fifth Of Adults Choose Pets Over Partners
February 11, 2010 1 CommentA poll has revealed that 21% of adults around the world would rather spend Valentine’s Day with their pets instead of their lover.
Perhaps being in the dog house isn’t such a bad thing after all.
The break down by country is interesting, and of course the romantic French are the least likely to spend their time with Fluffy.
In Turkey 49% choose to be with their pets.
In India 41% choose to be with their pets.
In Japan 30% choose to be with their pets.
In the United States 27% choose to be with their pets.
In Australia 25% choose to be with their pets.
In Canada 20% choose to be with their pets.
In the United Kingdom 18% choose to be with their pets.
In Hungary 12% choose to be with their pets.
In Mexico 11% choose to be with their pets.
In France 10% choose to be with their pets.
The study found that age and income were better predictors of puppy love. The largest number of people who want to spend the day with their pets are younger people with lower incomes. Men and women were almost equal in their choice of partner for the day.
“Likely defying stereotype, the desire to spurn a partner for a pet is not rooted in gender but rather age and even there it seems the older you are, the least likely it is you’d choose pet over partner,” John Wright, senior vice president of Ipsos, told Reuters.
“While there are country differences, it’s more of a personal choice made by younger and less affluent individuals.”
