Ask, Tell And Expect To Get Arrested
March 19, 2010 No CommentsDon’t ask, don’t tell. But please be willing to die for your country.
Former army Lieutenant Dan Choi was arrested for protesting the controversial rule outside the White House on Thursday.
He has been one of the most vocal opponents to the backwards policy ever since he came out on The Rachel Maddow Show last year and was summarily discharged.
Earlier that day he had attended a DC protest, which was organized by the Human Rights Campaign to support Barack Obama’s call for a repeal of the policy. Choi announced to the crowd:
Our fight is not here at Freedom Plaza, it is at the White House. We are walking to the White House right now to send the President a message. So, take out your cell phones and your cameras. Document this moment. Join us as together we make history.
Then he handcuffed himself to the White House fence, along with Capt. Jim Pietrangelo. As authorities pulled the men away, a crowd of hundreds burst into applause.
