B&B Turns Away Gay Couple

March 23, 2010 9 Comments

A couple running a B&B are shocked by the public outrage after turning away a gay couple.

They argued that allowing the two men to sleep in a double bed would go against their Christian beliefs.

On Friday night the couple, Michael Black and John Morgan, arrived at the bed and breakfast with reservation in hand. But because the reservation was made for Mr Black, Susanne Wilkinson assumed it would be for a man and woman.

She says she politely explained how allowing them to sleep in the same room would violate her Christian beliefs and courteously elaborated that it was not acceptable with her children in the house.

“People just take it for granted that their lifestyle will be accepted wherever they go,” she told the Daily Mail.

“If they had gone to a hotel I think it would probably be different, but this is my house, we live here with our children  -  it’s our home that’s the difference.”

Unfortunately the B&B was full, because otherwise she would have offered them two separate rooms. So she can’t be homophobic, she explained.

“We live according to our values and our Christian beliefs. We are not homophobic,” added her husband, Francis Wilkinson.

“Of course everybody has the freedom to live as they choose but we feel that in our own home we have every right to say no to something we don’t agree with.”

Except, of course, for the fact that their turned their home into a business.

The police have received a report of the incident and the couple have been inundated with phone calls, text messages and emails from people complaining about their behaviour. They are bracing for a civil suit as their actions appear to be contrary to the UK’s 2006 Equality Act.

The couple admitted that they do not ask whether their heterosexual guests are married. I imagine they also decline to ask whether they engage in sodomy.

And then there is the assumption that because they are gay they would be having sex that night, a concern that would vanish in the face of a middle aged married couple. Although there is the possibility that as a gay couple they make a practice of defiling Good Christian Homes.

There is no prohibition in the Bible about two men sleeping in the same bed together, a common practice until the turn of last century. Poverty often went hand in hand with a lack of space and a lack of heat.

And I don’t understand the concern about their children being in the house, unless they make a practice of having their children sleep in the same room as the guests. One would hope that what goes on behind closed doors stays there.

Even being non-denominational Christians, they would no doubt have heard of the story of Mary and Joseph who were also turned away from an inn. How do they square their actions with that Christian fable?

But then again, this story proves that even the devil can quote scripture.

Once again under the guise of religious beliefs, discrimination flourishes. Although wars, murder and even genocide are carried out in the name of God..So this incident hardly comes as a surprise.
I begs the question: what sort of society do we want to live in?
I for one think prejudice, discrimination and hatred, in the name of religion or otherwise has no place in this world..

I, for one, oppose sexual anarchy and the devastation it has caused to civilization after civilization. I also oppose anti-Christian bigotry. Most of all, I support freedom, which entails the fact that not everyone supports the evil you choose to do.

  2. Ben says:

What part of “liberty” do you not understand?

This couple wants to run a modest B&B out of their home. In a free society, they could choose their patrons, particularly when it involves people entering their own home. Doesn’t freedom mean choosing who can come in your home, and sleep on your sheets, and who you choose to associate with for personal business?

    Isn’t that freedom?

Why should the notion of freedom and liberty be thrown aside so that homosexuals can come into your house to have sex?

Are we to believe that this nice married couple are not allowed to own a business out of their home unless they let homosexuals have sex in their home?

They aren’t entitled to make a living from their own property? They’re not entitled to their own beliefs about sexual ethics?

What has happened to the West? What a shame.

Who says they were going to have SEX in this B&B ???…..perhaps thats just your personal FANTASY. A NORMAL hetrosexual doesnt need to feel threatened by homosexuality…..you need to look deep within yourself & find the truth about your sexuality.

  3. David says:

Ben..What has caused more damage to civilisations: War (based upon religious beliefs) or sexual `anarchy`as you put it?
How can you be taken seriously when in the same post you say you believe in freedom then say you are against sexual anarchy?? That in itself demonstrates that at best you are confused about what you believe in and at worse an intolerant, homophobic individual hiding behind the facade of `faith`…
Let us not forget that it was the great Christian crusades of the middle ages that inflicted torture, fear and death upon so many people…So, I suspect the world has evolved since then and you can no longer espouse such hatred and hide behind your `faith`..

  4. David says:

And Ben, in case you were wondering, I am a Roman Catholic. .

  5. Mack says:

This couple need to be taken to the cleaners & be sued for every penny they have. How dare they espouse their brand of Christianity ..if this couple were black there home would probably be torched by now….its blatant Homophobia..they believe they can be exempt from the Law ..hiding behind their pseudo religious piety.
Lets hope their children turn out to be GAY….they might just stop & think about the venom & hatred they engender

We welcome Mack’s comments but feel the need to differentiate between Mack the valued reader with Mack the editor. They are two different people. (Mick)
