Abortion Pill Available At GPs In UK

The abortion pill will soon be available at selected GPs across the UK.
In spite of being 97% effective and available in France since 1988 it is still being hotly debated around the world.
It is a form of medicinal abortion where the woman takes a drug that causes her to miscarry up to 9 weeks into the pregnancy. Until now, it has only been available in the UK at hospitals or abortion clinics.
The British Pregnancy Advisory Service, said: “We hope GPs who are keen and able to provide early medical abortion continue to support this.”
I think this is a great idea. If there is a training available to GPs who can then be licenced it will make it so much easier for women to access this early abortion option.
For those who might say that it will increase promiscuity and unprotected sex (you know who you are!) you couldn’t be farther from the truth.
The entire process includes several trips to the doctor for various medications, takes a few days to fully abort the fetus, usually involves cramping for a few days, and the bleeding can continue for up to four weeks. There are side effects like nausea, dizziness, cramping, headaches, and fever. It is not pretty.
But for some women this is the best option. It can be done early, it doesn’t involve surgery, the women have some sense of control over the process, and it can be done in the privacy of their home.
I think it’s great that British women will have easier access to the abortion pill and hope this program is successful and extends across the whole country. Anything that makes this process easier for women is greatly welcomed in my opinion.
