Polanski To Be Sent To USA For Trial
April 23, 2010 No CommentsRoman Polanski allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl in 1978 in California.
He has been under house arrest in Switzerland since September last year. His lawyers wanted the trial to go on without him in America but it has been ruled that he must be extradited.
I suppose he was hoping to stay under house arrest, “at his chalet in the luxury resort of Gstaad”, as that seems much nicer than a US prison.
But he certainly doesn’t deserve to stay in the chalet as it’s no punishment whatsoever.
Polanski’s victim also has put in a petition to have the case dropped. It has ruined her life and she wants the whole mess to be over with. The US courts have rejected that petition as well. As they should have; it’s not about her revenge, it’s about the courts punishing a man who did a horrible misdeed. She just happens to be the unlucky victim.
Sadly, the maximum he will be facing is two years in prison, not nearly enough in my opinion. It’s hard to say when he might actually be extradited and tried, but I hope it’s soon as that man deserves to rot in jail for as long as possible.
