Fetal Abnormalities? Now Doctors Can Legally Hide This From You.

Oklahoma has just passed two incredibly controversial laws that limit a woman’s right to freedom of choice as well as invading her privacy around abortion.
Informed choice? What’s that? Who cares?! Obviously the doctors’ rights are more important than the pregnant woman who might have a disabled child for the rest of her life.
Firstly, a vaginal ultrasound will be required by all women who want an abortion, even from cases resulting from rape.
Secondly, doctors can withhold information about fetal abnormalities if they think the woman will abort and that goes against their beliefs.
The second bill shielded doctors from lawsuits by parents with disabled children who may have chosen to have an abortion if they had they been informed about genetic or other defects. Opponents argued that doctors who want to withhold information because of their own beliefs would now be protected by law.
This is madness. There are really no words to describe how ludicrous and against the free choice of the parents this is. The parents have a right to know of any fetal abnormalities and there is no medical reason a woman should see an ultrasound before an abortion.
“The Centre for Reproductive Rights has filed a lawsuit claiming the ultrasound law breaks the state’s constitution on multiple grounds.” I hope they are successful.
This is clearly nothing to do with medicine and everything to do with blocking women’s access to abortion and unbiased healthcare.
