This Boy Ain't No Fairy

May 5, 2010 No Comments

Meet Slate, Disney’s new male fairy Sparrow Man, the only male avatar in its Pixie Hollow site.

Apparently parents were getting uncomfortable because their little boys wanted to play on the site too, and their only option was to pick a fairy with short hair and hope for the best.

In classic Disney fashion they’ve managed to rip off real fairy tales while totally stripping them of any proper meaning.

Fairies, and pixies for that matter, come in both sexes. In fact they seem to be traditionally depicted as androgynous. There is no reason why a little boy can’t be a fairy.

Oh, right.

I forgot that Disney products are aimed at parents who actually think that playing a fairy on a children’s website will make their children grow up gay.

A much bigger concern is that children want to be fairies — you know, those malevolent beings responsible for turning the milk sour, setting the barn on fire and stealing new born babies.
