Most Babies Of Older Mothers Are Accidental Bundles Of Joy

In America, more and more women are delaying motherhood to pursue education and careers.
This is great for many reasons, especially a better educated population with less teenage pregnancies. And this trend includes women from ”all ethnicities in the United States.”
Children born to highly educated mothers increasingly are born later in life. The mothers are usually married, and they have a much higher chance of raising children in a stable marriage that lasts through a child’s childhood.
Yet at the same time research shows that the unexpected outcome of this trend is that there is an increasingly large number of single mothers.
Huh? How can there be a better chance of stable marriage and still many single mothers?
It probably means that although the proportion of single mothers has increased over the years, the actual number of single mothers is still small with the overall majority of women being married. They also said that most of the single mothers are in their 20s while the married ones are older.
When asked why they decided to have their first child, 87 percent of the parents in the Pew survey answered, “The joy of having children.” But nearly half said, “There wasn’t a reason. It just happened.”
I guess they aren’t planning it, but when their biological clock is ticking they can’t help but be happy when those accidental bundles of joy come along.
