Kate Nash Rocks The F-Word

Could it be? Is feminist no longer a dirty word?
Yesterday British songstress Kate Nash admitted she was one of “those” women. If only others would follow her example.
When asked by the BBC if she was a feminist, Kate responded by saying:
“Yes, I’m a feminist. I think everybody should be, because feminism is about equality of the sexes, which we all believe in, don’t we?”
Well, yeah.
But there are a lot of people out there who are happy to embrace the ideas but who shun the word. They believe in equal rights, but explain that they aren’t feminists because they don’t hate men.
Nelly Furtado admits to a feminist phase but then: “Some of the male-bashing brainwashed me for a bit so I stopped. I love men.”
And although Lady Gaga said that she was “a little bit of a feminist” last year, she has also said: “I’m not a feminist – I, I hail men, I love men. I celebrate American male culture, and beer, and bars and muscle cars…”
The thing is that feminism has nothing at all to do with hating men. It is about promoting a world-view where the sexes are treated equally — where a person is judged by the content of their character, not the organ between their legs.
Luckily, some people know that. When Andy Samberg famously sported a NOW (National Organization for Women) shirt to the Spike TV awards he was asked whether it was a joke. He said, no, that he was a “totally sincere” feminist.
So if the Dick-in-a-Box guy gets it, why can’t they?
