Man Charged With Rape For Lying

If a men lies about something to get you in the sack, is that rape?
What about if he lies about his race or religion?
A court has decided that one man must spend 18 months in jail for lying to a woman about his background before they slept together.
The man and the woman met on the street in East Jerusalem in 2008.
She asked what his name was and he lied, replying “Daniel.” As it is a common Jewish name, she made the assumption that he was from the same background.
After talking for a while they went to a nearby office block and had sex. She found out about he was Palestinian after they parted.
Although the sex was consensual, he has been charged with “rape by deception” and sentenced to a year and a half in an Israeli jail. This is the first time that a man has been charged with rape for misrepresenting his ethnicity in the modern world, according to legal experts.
When the judge delivered her verdict, she said, “If she hadn’t thought the accused was a Jewish bachelor interested in a serious romantic relationship, she would not have co-operated.”
But I doubt a potential marriage was the issue. Very few people who decide to have sex with a stranger in a nearby building are expecting to seal the deal with a ring.
The problem is that she is a bigot and is grossed out that she slept with a Palestinian. It is a deplorable opinion, but surely she has a right to vet her sexual partners any way she likes?
The courts will protect you from criminals, but the right to make bad decisions is enshrined in the law.
This woman has every right to decide that she will only sleep with Jewish millionaires who love cats — but when you pick your sexual partners off the street, you can’t be too surprised when their biographies don’t exactly pan out.
She is a bigot. He is a jerk. But no one here is a rapist.

This is absolutely shocking!
How can this be rape?
So, he misled her about his name, background. On these grounds, most of us have been rapists at some time in our lives! So wrong..
I think your blog post was actually a sweet kick off to a potential series of articles about this topic. A lot of users act like they comprehend what they’re preaching about when it comes to this topic and really, hardly anyone actually get it. You seem to understand it though, so I think you should run with it. Thanks!
I think it is horrible that anyone (man or woman) would lie to either sleep with someone or start a relationship.
This story, to me, underlines how preoccupied we are with culture and religion. While other women are struggling to get justice after actual attacks, this judge puts a man in jail because he used a fake name to have sex.
