Not Tonight Dear, I’m Feeling Fat

Women have fat days. This is a truth universally acknowledged and most often related to their menstrual cycle.
But did you know that men can have fat days too?
Of course you did!
I’m sure anyone who has lived in close quarters with men knows that they are just as likely to complain about feeling fat or ugly as any woman is. Yet it is shunned as not being manly to behave this way.
It’s time we stop hurting men in this way and allow them to experience a full range of emotions without shame. Their emotions are not limited to aggression and lust. Men can feel anything that women feel and often do.
A survey of over 5,000 men found that:
- 34% have less confidence to initiate sex when they are feeling unattractive
- 17% say low self-esteem impacts their sexual confidence
- 25% would consider losing weight to boost their sexual performance
These results have led to an online clinic being created called Monday Opportunity to Talk that encourages men to discuss their health issues anonymously with doctors.
I’d much rather we encourage men to open up about their health and feelings rather than continuing to avoid it by anonymously going online. But maybe this is a stepping stone.
Either way, with Tracey Cox being one of their sex experts, I’m sure they will have great attendance.
