Mexico To Recognize Same-Sex Marriage Nationally

States in Mexico have been refusing to recognize same-sex marriages performed in Mexico City. This means couples have not had access to equal rights.
Does this mean you marriage disappears when you cross the border? I hardly think so.
Now, if people who were married in Mexico City travel to other states, the governments will be forced to recognize this. As well they should. As one of the judges said, marriage doesn’t end when you go on holiday.
If someone gets married in one country or state will they be recognized in other places? Can they have rights to hospital visits and alimony all around the world, regardless or who they are or where they tied the knot?
I think they should. And I am glad that the Mexico courts are forcing other states to give equal rights.
What this means is that people travelling within the country will get the same benefits and rights as heterosexual married couples. For example, alimony, health care, or inheritance rights.
Now the only issue left to decide in Mexico is whether or not adoptions by same-sex couples will be recognized in the rest of the country.
As far as I can see they have to, because what if that family goes travelling or moves? Do the children get sent to foster care? I hardly think so. Looks like the homophobic states have lost this battle.
