The Big Swinging Dicks
August 20, 2010 No CommentsI was sitting on the couch and enjoying Hung, when suddenly I saw something so shocking that I almost spit out the chocolate pudding I was eating.
The series is about a man who falls on hard times and decides to become a prostitute. His female pimp is a hapless poet. It is generally light and funny and while it is on HBO it could never come near being described as porn. Sex and the City has more t & a than this does.
He decides to become a prostitute because he has a big dick. It is described as long and thick and beautiful. When his sex partners see it, they inevitably stand there in awe for a few reverential moments before getting down to business.
The fact that we never saw his penis never bothered me until I saw some pussy. It a just for a second but it confused me. Scene after scene after scene the camera teases us, panning down his treasure trail to reveal a towel, or cutting away at the last moment. Now I have no pressing need to see his junk, as I’m sure the internet is filled with larger, thicker models. But I had just assumed that genitals were off limits.
Not so. Apparently there is something more offensive about a penis than there is about a vulva. I suppose the female package is more sedate, as neatly tucked away as it is, but I doubt that is the reason, as erect nipples get a free pass.
It is either that nude women are ubiquitous, so showing another one on TV doesn’t matter, or because nude men are offensive. Perhaps it is presents a big, thick, challenge to other men?
Either way, there is a clear double standard and I don’t like it one bit. If they want to be more family friendly then by all means keep privates privates, but if not then both sexes should be free to let it all hang out.
