Why Rachel Johnson Is Wrong About Blondes
August 20, 2010 No Comments
Rachel Johnson wrote in the Evening Standard that blondes have more fun. She spewed a whole column of nastiness about Mariella Frostrup, who recently complained that blondes still have to endure sexism, which is probably true.
But Rachel has trivialized the debate, and calls her a “bottle blonde”, and says she thinks “real” blondes have more fun. Not only has she missed the point about discrimination against blondes, her rant lacks evidence. She forgets to tell us why she’s having more fun. She’s too busy whinging about Mariella. Maybe she’s jealous that Mariella is much prettier and more successful, and clearly brainier.
Personally I think blondes who think they’re having more fun than brunettes are the most annoying and self-absorbed twits to ever delude themselves with a silly idea. Someone obviously thought it up one day as the only good response to the achingly awful cliché that all blondes are dumb (true in your case, Rachel).
Looks have nothing to do with how much fun people have, but let’s forgive Rachel for a moment and consider what it would feel like to look like a transvestite version of Boris Johnson with a mop on your head. Not good.
Rachel’s little outburst confirms our worst fears – that sometimes blondes can be dumb. Who else would be dumb enough to describe their own magazine as “a piddling little magazine that nobody reads?”
