Kissing Cousins Equals Genetic Disabilities
August 23, 2010 No CommentsIn many cultures cousins are allowed to marry. This is not necessarily a problem, but when you combine generation after generation doing this same thing, many “genetic disabilities” will result.
In the UK more than half the marriages within the Pakistani community are between cousins, and the result of this is starting to appear within their population.
The children from these marriages are ten times more likely to have genetic disabilities which leads to problems such asĀ infant death, birth defects, learning difficulties, blindness, hearing problems, and metabolic disorders.
Professionals are at a loss as to what to do about it because they feel their warnings are being shut down. A Labour MP who tried to address the issue “suffered abuse”.
But for some reason we’re told that we mustn’t talk about cousin marriages because this is a sensitive issue. I think it’s absurd, we have to talk about it in order to find solutions.
This is obviously because the communities in which this practice is more common come from south Asian, Middle Eastern, and probably Muslim communities.
We are told we must be politically correct and respect other cultures, but at what cost?
If health professionals present valid medical evidence as to why cousin marriage is not a good idea, then this does not mean they are against that culture or want to get rid of those practices for irrational reasons.
It means that health professionals are trying to preserve theĀ health of the people within that culture and they would be wise to take the advice on board.
