The Real Princesses Of Persia
September 7, 2010 No CommentsFantasies are sometimes hard to shake and right now this image of “The Princess of Persia” is making its way around the web. Nothing is sexier than an exotic harem girl.
But we shouldn’t forget the actual women of Iran who are working hard to fight for their freedom.
On Saturday, the human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh was arrested and charged with “propaganda against the regime” and “acting against national security.” It has been reported that Iranian intelligence officials had warned her to not to represent Shirin Ebadi, the Iranian Nobel Peace prize laureate and human rights activist.
On Satuday, women’s rights activist Shiva Nazar Ahar was put on trial, and faces a possible death sentence, amid trumped up claims that she is a member of a government opposition group.
Both were members of the One Million Signature Campaign, which aimed to collect the names of a million citizens opposed to the nation’s discriminatory laws against women. They are the real Princesses of Persia.
