Hit Me Baby, One More Time

September 28, 2010 No Comments

The article is about a man who learned how to hit his lover during sex (at her request).

It’s a fascinating topic the deals with the politics of power, acts of violence and how he learned how to balance all of that with her boundaries.

What a shame, then, that these insights were simply tacked onto the end of a piece of erotica.

Don’t get me wrong, there is a place for sex stories, and that place is clearly the internet. I just don’t think it belongs on a site that is a hub for ideas about feminism and sexuality.

The story began:

  • We were already fucking. Her eyes were closed, and she was gathering the slack of the bedsheets into her hands. As we started going harder, she reached for the rail of the headboard. “Hit me,” she said. The frame was already barking. The bed was starting to shuffle away from the wall. I did what I thought she wanted and slapped her lightly across the face. She turned her head into the mattress and spoke louder, not unhappily. “Hit me. Harder. Hard.”

Long introductions can sometimes be lovely, but four paragraphs later it was still going:

  • Her torso flexed, and she couldn’t really talk. “On me, on me” she said. It was familiar shorthand. I pulled out and came on her face, though most of the cum landed behind on the headboard. The experience had torqued me up, leaving my mouth dry. I had gone much further than I expected. She laughed, roomily, full of new air and old affection. She fell back onto the pillows and smiled.
And then five paragraphs later it concluded:
  • From then on, hitting became a part of our practice, though it was never a default move. Sometimes she wanted to be held down. Sometimes she wanted me to tie her to the bed. Our moves were unplanned, aside from having to buy restraints. Once we had the fur handcuffs and straps, we came face-to-face with the comedy…

Finally we get to the heart of the matter, the fascinating issues that come up when someone asks you to hit them. This is the really juicy bit, the unfettered thrust of a new idea.

Yet, what is the value of a thought when compared with the ability to tap into the profit that millions of people generate while looking for sex online?

It’s not the first time Jezebel has been accused of lowering standards to increase the traffic to their site, but with upwards of 10 million hits a month, they are hardly starving for an audience.

There are not many places to go on the internet which look at the lives of women with such wit and insight. It would be a shame if they watered down their content just to increase their ad revenue.

Well, I say that, but if they wanted to get into the erotica business I would totally support them.

It would leave more room for the rest of us.
