Oral Sex Causes Cancer
October 18, 2010 No CommentsRates of mouth and throat cancers are increasing and doctors say this is caused by oral sex.
Well, not oral sex per se, but the human papillomavirus (HPV) which causes warts which people can get in their throats from giving oral sex which then leads to cancer.
Most people would know about HPV in the genitals leading to cervical cancer, but it seems there is also a link to oral cancers.
Since 1989 the rates in men have gone up by 50% and are going up by 3% per year for women. This is happening ”even as smoking, once thought to be the major cause, declines.”
So here’s yet another reason to wear condoms when having oral sex. Yes, it is a lower risk than other kinds of sex, but that by no means you won’t get anything if your partner has a sexually transmitted infection.
