Anti-Gay Couple Fights For Rights To Foster
November 1, 2010 No CommentsA Christian couple in the UK who believe that homosexuality is wrong are fighting in the courts for their right to foster children.
The couple has fostered over 20 children in the past, but are now being challenged under the Sexual Orientation Act.
They also do not recognize civil partnerships as a marriage and disagree with premarital sex.
Church of England Bishops fighting for their case say that “gay rights laws are eroding Christianity and stifling free speech.” In this case “The High Court is to be asked to rule on whether Christians are ‘fit people’ to adopt or foster children.”
If this couple loses the case that means that only people who are open minded and left wing will be able to foster. This could mean no more Christian, Muslim, or various other religious families will be able to help those children most in need.
In this day and age, equality and freedom are becoming more and more important in society. The Equality Act recently passed confirms this.
Is it right that these families won’t be able to foster? Maybe, maybe not. But do we want children to be going to a household that we know teaches prejudice and bigotry? Probably not.
It comes down to what is best for the child, not what is best for the foster parents –but who decides what’s right?
