Brit Girls Fight Back, Experts Blame Booze
November 30, 2010 No CommentsEnglish girls aren’t pulling any punches and they aren’t going to take it anymore — but is their aggressive behaviour spinning out of control?
Research found that 200 women are convicted of a violent crime every week, a rate which has gone up 81% since 1998.
“The girls we are dealing with in schools are increasingly physically aggressive,” Mike Fisher, an anger management therapist, told the Daily Mail.
“Particularly in some of the inner-city schools we are visiting, it is seen as a sign of strength. Girls feel the need to ‘hold their own’ and fight back if they are taunted by the boys. They are standing up for themselves, but just not in the right way.”
His suggestion is that the girls should just put down the pints and start acting a little more like proper British ladies.
“Unlike their mothers, who perhaps did not drink as much, they become violent.”
So it is the alcohol that fuels the aggression?
Funny, because I would think daily harassment by teenage boys would be the cause of anger, and that aggression and binge drinking would be the way these girls are processing that anger. But I’m no anger management therapist.
In fact, the trend is so bad that the media has coined a term for these women: Ladettes — meaning girls who act like guys. They drink, fight and hook-up without shame.
Mr Fisher explained: “They are tired of being pushed around by boys and they are fighting back. They are fed up with being the passive sex.”
Seriously, the pints are the problem?
Perhaps the anger isn’t caused by knocking back a few too many pints. Perhaps the problem is that English boys need to learn some manners.
