Bush Daughter Supports Gay Marriage, Opposes Dad
February 1, 2011 No CommentsBarbara Bush, daughter of George Dubya, is going to publicly support gay marriage in a video statement being aired today in New York.
The video is part of a campaign by a gay rights group called The Human Rights Campaign and is being aired at an annual gala in New York City. They are calling on New York to legalize same-sex marriage after a bill was defeated in 2009.
“I am Barbara Bush, and I am a New Yorker for marriage equality…New York is about fairness and equality. And everyone should have the right to marry the person that they love.”
She is another advocate in the line of politicians’ children going against their Republican parents. When her dad was president he ”pushed for a constitutional amendment banning such unions.”
John McCain’s daughter also supports gay marriage and Dick Cheney’s publicly lesbian daughter has been credited with helping him change his mind on the issue.
This is evidence of the growing trend of support for gay marriage and it looks like the younger generation is leading the way. It brings hope that, regardless of any homophobic and anti-gay upbringing, people, even from high profile familes like Bush’s and Cheney’s, can change their minds and make a difference.
