“One Up The Bum And You Won’t Be A Mom”
February 9, 2011 No CommentsA confusing safe sex video suggests anal sex as a good alternative to contraception, and is causing an uproar in the UK where it has been released.
Marie Stopes teamed up with the musical comedy troupe The Midnight Beast to produce a fun safe sex PSA that kids might actually watch. The problem is that the whole thing is rather confusing. One band member simulates oral sex with a blow up doll while another finds a condom in his mouth after eating a banana. It also contains these rather suspect lines: “One up the bum and it’s no harm done… One up the bum and you won’t be a mom.”
While the end of the video says “Don’t Trust Midnight Beast With Safe Sex Advice,” the majority of the video does seem to contain sensible advice about safe sex, such as “Use your head when you go to bed.”
But will teenagers be able to separate the good advice from the bad?
Obviously anal sex without protection is problematic. In addition to being an easy way to pick up STIs, there is an issue with mutual pleasure. While some women are happy to explore their third hole, many find it uncomfortable and even painful.
Also, there is no advice about the proper way to play with the chocolate starfish. Madame X warns:
- Condoms need to be used during anal sex because there is a risk of STIs for both people as well as infection of the urethra for the active partner. Make sure to use condoms with lots of lube and allow the bottom partner to be in control of speed and depth for maximum comfort.
I wonder why they didn’t bring up painful penis infections in their song? Perhaps The Midnight Beast should stick to abstinence videos:
