Valentine’s Day Is For Men, Too

February 11, 2011 No Comments

Valentine’s Day is on Monday and I just want to send a shout out to all the men who enjoy the excuse to celebrate love.

All the advertising is aimed at men buying things for women. It’s as if men aren’t allowed to like Valentine’s Day for it’s own sake, but only do it to please their female partners. Is enjoying Valentine’s an unmanly thing to do? Are only wimpy men romantic?

I hardly think so.

I know men who love the excuse to be romantic. Regardless of what you think of the marketing (it goes overboard, I’m sure) the idea behind Valentine’s Day is a lovely one. Who wouldn’t want an excuse to show their partner that they love them and think they’re special? Who wouldn’t want their partner to make them feel special?

Men are romantic just as much as women. They might show their love in a different way some of the time (fixing the blocked sink counts in their book), but in the end men want to feel just as special and appreciated as any woman and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

This day is not just about loving women. So surprise him with flowers, stick a love letter into his briefcase or buy him that cool magnetic screw driver he’s had his eye on.

Thankfully, things are starting to change slowly but surely in the media, but not fast enough. As any woman will tell you, a romantic man is a wonderful partner and both sexes need to appreciate this.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
