Forcibly Sterilized While Having Cesarean

A British woman might be forcibly sterilized while she’s undergoing a cesarean section on Wednesday.
The courts will decide tomorrow what they will do with her.
- The woman will be represented by the official solicitor, a government lawyer who represents those who cannot instruct their own legal team because they lack capacity.
They will argue that this is too drastic and other forms of long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) would be better options. For example, IUD, the implant, or the shot.
- The court can also order “terminations of pregnancy” for women who lack capacity to consent, as well as “experimental or innovative treatment” and medical procedures that require the use of force to restrain the patient.
The court’s control of people’s sexual and reproductive lives seems to be more and more in the news. Is it just in the UK or are other countries just less visible in the media when they do these things?
I hope they go with LARC because that’s the most humane thing to do. It will at least give them time to work out the issues, rather than a rush job the day before the cesarean that cannot be reversed.
