Say It With Bugs
February 15, 2011 No CommentsValentine’s Day traditionally coincides with a spike in flower, chocolate and jewellery sales. But some companies are pushing less-than-traditional ways to buy someone’s love.
The Bronx zoo advertised a limited time offer for the special day. For only ten dollars, you can name one of their 58,000 Madagascar hissing cockroaches after your Valentine.
“Flowers wilt. Chocolates melt. Roaches are forever,” the campaign reminds us.
“Naming a roach in honour of someone near and dear to your heart shows that you’ve noticed how resilient, resourceful, and loyal that person is. Or maybe it’s in recognition of your one and only’s virility, or strength in the face of high radiation. You’re not afraid to say, “Baby, you’re a roach!”"
I’ve gotten some pretty odd presents for Valentine’s Day. What’s the worse gift you’ve ever received?
