Real Aphrodisiacs Found
March 28, 2011 No CommentsPeople have been using aphrodisiacs to improve their sex lives for centuries, but have you ever wondered what actually works and what’s an old wives’ tale?
Researchers in Canada have looked into what works in hopes to find the truth.
So what did they find? Ginseng, saffron, and yohimbine (a natural chemical from yohimbe trees in West Africa) improve sexual function. And desire was increased by muira puama (a flowering plant in Brazil) and maca root (a mustard plant in the Andes).
But it seems the old standbys of chocolate and wine are nothing more than placebos.
The reason this study was done wasn’t just for fun, but rather to find some natural enhancers that people can use who have difficulty with medications. Erection drugs often have quite serious side effects and men who have heart conditions can’t take them. As well, these erection drugs do nothing for sexual desire or libido.
It’s great that some research is finally being done. There are far too many natural “remedies” and pills out there that are likely just trying to take people’s money and get their hopes up without any real benefit. Hopefully with research like this there will be some valid drugs created that can be legitimately approved through drug licensing bodies.
Just be careful because even if these are natural, they are still chemicals being ingested in the body and will still have some of their own side effects. So check with a doctor before use.
Of course, if you’re having troubles with desire taking plant extract won’t do anything for you if your relationship is in trouble so make sure you don’t pin all your hopes on a pill. Instead, learn to spice up your sex life and get some advice from a proper sex therapist. But don’t forget to have fun trying!
