US Hits Lowest Rate Of Teen Pregnancy Ever
April 7, 2011 No CommentsGirls today are less likely to be teen moms than their grandmothers.
Out of every 1000 teen girls, only 39.1 will give birth, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. It’s been reduced by 37 percent in that last two decades, which is great news. In fact, it’s the lowest rate since the government began accumulating data on the topic 70 years ago.
That’s right. Today US teens are having fewer babies than they did in the middle of the Eisenhower era. So it’s time to stop panicking.
It’s also time to acknowledge that sex education plans are working. Turns out that knowledge is power, and the best way to empower our teens it to give them information about how to avoid pregnancy.
The US still has a long way to go, with a teen pregnancy rate that is nine times higher than that of other developed countries. But this let’s them know that they’re on the right track, and pretty soon, they might even catch up.
