Equality Means Women Cheat, Too
April 29, 2011 1 CommentPower plays a larger role in adultery than gender, a new study has shown.
Putting the probability of extra-marital activity down to confidence, researchers say women with powerful jobs are just as likely to stray sexually as their male counterparts.
Previous studies suggested gender was the key factor in infidelity but it seems this isn’t so. Perhaps women have, for centuries, longed to kick monogamy to the curb, but have just been stifled by patriarchy.
The survey asked more than 1,500 professionals about their past affairs, their desire to cheat and how often they traveled for business. It also gauged the participants’ levels of confidence and power.
The results show the gender of powerful people makes no difference to their past indiscretions, or to their desire to be indiscreet.
- As more and more women are in greater positions of power and are considered equal to men, then familiar assumptions about their behaviour may also change. This may lead to increased negative behaviours among women that in the past have been more common among men.
As more women pop their heads through the glass ceiling, will we see a dramatic increase in the number of ladies dipping their toes in numerous pools?
And is this a game at which we’re keen to beat men?

Individuals of both sexes are either wired to be faithful, or not. And even those who are wired that way experience moments of human weakness. Lying, cheating and stealing are not gender-specific character flaws. To think otherwise is IMHO foolish.
