Girls Gone Wild Not OK In UK
May 30, 2011 No CommentsWhen drinks are plentiful and they’re feeling like letting loose, girls go wild.
It’s okay to have a good time, but when it goes to the extreme it can have violent consequences, according to The Telegraph.
This type of hardcore partying, associated with binge drinking and sex, has been coined “ladette culture.”
British politicians oppose this kind of destructive behaviour and are trying to ban the Girls Gone Wild franchise.
Ian Mearns, the MP for Gateshead, is pushing to stop Girls Gone Wild from filming in Britain because he believes it exploits young women.
You can argue that women agree to bare their breasts for the series, available on Pay Per View channels in North America, but the majority of them are intoxicated and, let’s face it, many of them are underage.
It may be fun and games at the time, but that moment is captured forever on video.
Politicians also argue that it’s a demeaning and casualized form of prostitution. Considering women are given merchandise in exchange for nudity and performing sexual acts on camera, it’s hard to disagree with them.
The good news is that politicians are up in arms alongside feminists who can’t believe that such a series would actually attempt to spread its tentacles across an ocean.
Apparently, it’s a brand that promotes the “celebration of freedom and youthful expression,” but in reality it’s cashing in on the popularization of the ladette culture and exploiting women at their most vulnerable.
Girls Gone Wild should just be gone.
