Lesbian Sent To Conversion Therapy Sues Cops

Don’t like homosexuals? Why not ship them off to be cured by an evangelical therapist?

Allow me to introduce you to some cutting edge developments in the world of drug and alcohol addiction.

Instead of the trusted methods of rehabilitation, counselling and support, the surest way of kicking a habit is a visit to your local evangelical conversion therapist.

Or so thought the Bartow County Sheriff’s department when it allegedly sent lesbian Amanda Booker to Chris and Donna McDowell to be cured of her homosexuality.

Ms Booker is suing the sheriff and county commissioner for violating her constitutional rights. She says the department ignored a court mandate for her to be sent to a psychiatric hospital for drug addiction — and instead paid the McDowell’s $600 to “cure” her.

The series of events that lead to Booker’s arrest are pretty complicated, but suffice to say she didn’t deserve what allegedly happened to her.

She says she managed to escape from the evangelists and find her way back to her mother’s house, but wasn’t there long before the police tracked her down, arrested her without a warrant, pushed her up against a patrol car and lifted her shirt to expose her breasts.

Anthony Perrotta, Booker’s lawyer, says this isn’t the first time the officers in question have taken the law into their own hands, especially in regards to homosexuals.

The lawsuit claims it is common for the named officers in Bartow to “harass homosexuals taken into custody, to mandate that homosexuals taken into custody refrain from living as homosexuals, and to forbid them from maintaining any homosexual relationships.”

Sheriff Clark Milsap vehemently denies all the allegations.

“I haven’t been served (with papers). But, no ma’am, that is the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard in my life,” he told local paper GA Voice, after a quick chuckle about the absurdity of the case.

Whether or not these allegations are true, it is crucial that Booker’s case be taken seriously. Just because it’s the little gal’s word against the big guy’s, it does not make it any less valid, or likely of truth.
