Men Want Cuddles, Women Want Sex
July 6, 2011 No CommentsWhat happens between the sheets is central to a great, long-lasting relationships. The newest study of relationship and sexual satisfaction from the Kinsey Institute reveals just what aspects of our sex life need to be emphasized for heightened success because it turns out, men and women have different needs. And they might not be what you think.Although men are always portrayed as the ones obsessed with sex, in long-term relationships, they’re actually more interested in tender cuddles than women are.
Researchers surveyed more than 1,000 couples who had been together an average 25 years about their private lives. The couples were composed of 40- to 70-year-old men and their female partners, either married or living together for a minimum of one year.
Results showed that men and women both were likely to report sexual satisfaction if they also indulged in frequent kissing, cuddling, sexual caressing and more frequent sex but men and women have different ways of expressing it. While men emphasized their happiness in their relationship in later years, women highlighted their sexual satisfaction increased over time.
Is it because women’s attractive powers are more scrutinized in later years that they feel they need to show and tell that they’re getting some? According to the study, men who had more sexual partners in their lifetime were actually least satisfied with their sex lives so men who are happy probably need to flaunt that instead.
But in the end, despite their different approaches, men and women in long-term relationships reported being happier the longer they had been together so despite the increasing divorce rates and rampant skepticism towards marriage and long romantic relations, it’s not impossible to make it work.
Just hear your partner out. Giving as much as you take will make it work.
