Proof That “Ex-Gay” Therapy Does Not Work
July 27, 2011 No CommentsEx-gay “therapy” has been in many headlines recently, especially after the discovery of Macus Bachmann’s clinics and the more recent news of high suicide rates for gay teens in Michele Bachmann’s district. Now there is new proof that “gay therapy” does not work, and it has come from a surprising source.
Pat Robertson’s Regency University is a very conservative, Christian university that does not support equal rights for LGBT citizens. However, the school just released a study conforming that “ex-gay” men never stop being gay, even when married to the opposite sex.
The study used the Kinsey Scale and asked participants to rank their sexuality. The scale has seven options, from “exclusively heterosexual” to “exclusively homosexual.” Researchers looked at how gay men responded to the questions both before and after heterosexual marriage. Nothing had changed. In fact, the men seemed to dislike the opposite sex even more.
People seem to think that this is a question of ideology or religion. This study proves that it is not. “Ex-gay” therapy is a matter of scientific fact. It is not controversial to scientists, so it shouldn’t be so for politicians. These kinds of therapy clinics and religious “conversions” now have no excuse for what they do.
My fear, however, is that they will continue anyway. Hopefully these clinics (and Marcus Bachmann) can look at the facts and stop putting LGBT citizens through this emotional pain.
