Self Help Is More Than Just Manual Pleasure
August 4, 2011 1 CommentTeens who masturbate are more likely to have real sex and use a condom, according to a new survey.
The sexual behavior of more than 800 teens across the US was studied in the National Survey of Sexual Health and Behavior. The survey asked the teens how often they had masturbated in the last three months, year and entirety of their lifetime. They were also asked about masturbation with a partner and condom use. Not shockingly at all, the teen boys took the masturbating crown. Three quarters of guys had masturbated, but only half of girls had done the solo dance before.
Okay, so we know that guys masturbate more, but the study also found that guys who were self helpers had more oral sex and vaginal intercourse than their abstaining counterparts. But for girls, masturbation led to the holy grail: oral sex, partnered masturbation, anal sex, and vaginal intercourse. So, does this mean that girls who seek personal pleasure are total sluts? It sounds like it, but surely is not true. Being in touch with your sexual side is wonderful.
Most important were the findings related to safety. Boys polled were more likely to use a condom when engaging in sex over guys who were less frequent masturbators. It seems that being more sexually aware of yourself makes you a more responsible lover.
This proved to researchers that masturbation is not just an act of pleasure for the individual, but an important aspect of adolescent sexuality. After seeing these results, they suggest that teens be taught a positive message about masturbation, not one of shame. Duh! It seems masturbation is finally getting the positive light it deserves.
There is no way for parents to keep their teen from sex, but it seems that with the promotion of masturbation, they will at least be more safe when they take their hands of themselves and put them on someone else. Keep on masturbating, teens!
