Women On Top: Do They Deserve It?
August 26, 2011 No CommentsForbes has announced its list of the world’s 100 Most Powerful Women for 2011, complete with powerhouses like Oprah, J.K. Rowling, Diane Sawyer and even Lady Gaga. Let’s examine the results. Are these women worthy of such power? Bear with me here.
We have the second most powerful, Hilary Clinton, US Secretary of State and 2008 presidential candidate…well, for a while at least. Hilary has put forth many opportunities for women and men alike in our country, but would she be in her position if she was not the wife of former President Bill?
And then we have number 22, Michele Bachmann. Oh boy. Her outrageous opinions, and plans, for our country go against all that we are currently attempting to change and fix. And who messes up the birthday of Elvis with the day of his death?
Then we have good ol’ Sarah, number 34. Sarah Palin was a smidge close to becoming the first female Vice President of America, turning women everywhere red in embarrassment from some of her opinions and abilities when it came to speeches.
I love the idea that women are gaining more prominence in the political world and whole world, according to Forbes. Who wouldn’t?
But with great power comes great responsibility, and I can’t help but feel that some of these women are making a female President a farther and more distant reality day by day. But, some day, the right woman will appear in politics and prove to be worthy of running a country. I’m not giving up yet.
