Bye Bye Summer, Hello DivorceSeptember 2, 2011 No Comments
Divorce lawyers see a huge spike in clients once the calendar flips to September. Why the surge of unhappy couples?
All of us who associate September with starting school again can understand the phenomenon. It may not be the beginning of the new year (January also sees a huge jump in divorce numbers), but September is reality check time after romantic summers full of brushing off worries and soaking in the sun.
It makes a fair amount of sense. For couples with children, they may wish to wait until they head back to school so their heads are not so in the summer clouds and distracted with schoolwork to notice mommy and daddy divorcing. Or maybe couples are waiting for their youngest to head to college at the end of the summer so that all of the kids are away and grown adults. Perfect time to untie the knot.
The September club of divorcees tends to be not of the high profile cheating scandal type, but the general dissatisfaction crew. If you’re just not completely happy in your marriage, why ruin your summer by wasting away in lawyer’s offices? Soak up the sun and get nice and tan for the new market of eligible and more satisfying men.
