Play Like A Girl
September 12, 2011 No CommentsBoys have always been known to be the video game players and sport-lovers, loving the mixture of the two with sports games like Madden Football, NCAA Basketball, FIFA, Tiger Woods and NHL. All of them feature real-life game playing and characters, well… male characters. But not all of these sports are just for men to play. Actually none of them are.
14-year-old Lexi Peters wished to create each of her hockey teammates in the game using the custom player option. But, because the only options were male, her creations were bulky guys with long “hockey” hair. So, Lexi decided to inquire with EA Sports, the creator of all of these virtual games, about the sex of the characters in the game.
“It is unfair to women and girl hockey players around the world, many of them who play and enjoy your game. I have created a character of myself, except I have to be represented by a male and that’s not fun,” she wrote to Electronic Arts and Lexi finally got her wish. They even used her likeness in the first female option for a player.
Congrats, Lexi! Time to show them how to play like a girl.
