Locked In An Eternal Embrace
September 14, 2011 No CommentsFor 6,000 years, there has been a young couple embracing in their final resting place, under the ground of Valdaro, Italy.
The young skeletal lovers, are believed to have been 18 to 20-years-old when they passed. Embracing each other all the way back to the Neolithic period, cuddled close together, limbs intertwined, and faces looking at one another, the pair was found back in 2007 in a necroplis under the ground of a small village named Valdaro just outside of Mantua. Finally on display for lovers and non-believers to enjoy, they are settled for now at Mantua’s Archaeological Museum until they find a new, permanent home.
Star-crossed lovers? The real Romeo and Juliet? Many believe that the pair died together, but research finds no sign of a violent death for the couple. It is possible they were laid to rest forever together, entwined in the way that any lover would wish to be with their soul mate.
Whether they died together at the same time in a Romeo and Juliet tale of tormented love, were lucky enough to be buried together or if they did not even know each other at the time, after spending 6,000 years embracing one another, they are certainly bonded in a special way. And are symbols of true love for the people of today.
