Canada One Step Closer To Legalized Prostitution
September 18, 2011 No CommentsProstitution is now one step closer to becoming a recognized industry in Canada. In Edmonton, “massage” parlours and escort services are being licensed.
The people who work for these agencies will have to take a three hour sexual exploitation information session. They will also have to prove they’re over 18. This means that actual massage parlours will be regulated separately from the sexy kind. They will no longer have to go through police checks and accusations. The city even wants a sex industry enforcement team that could check up on these places and make sure no violence was going on. Imagine telling your friends you just got hired as a sex industry enforcer!
So, prostitution is almost kind of legal in Canada. You may be wondering why so many people think this is a good thing. Won’t our cities fall to corruption and deviance if prostitution is legal? The truth is, probably not.
If prostitution is regulated it will be easier to protect women, protect the money they make, and curtail child prostitution. These women could even unionize and lobby for better protection. When people think of prostitution they always condemn the women, not the Johns who are actually paying for it. Regulating it would help get rid of this stigmatization towards women.
No matter what you think of the industry, protecting these women is a good thing.
