The Average Break-Up Make-Over Costs $800
September 30, 2011 2 CommentsIt may not be a verified science but many women agree there’s nothing like changing your hairstyle, make-up, clothes or general look to remedy a nasty break-up. But why is it that being dumped makes us automatically whip out our wallets and want to change ourselves?
A new study reveals British women spend more than £500 (that’s over $800… Yikes!) on changing their image to make themselves feel better after a break-up. According to the survey, the first stop for women is the shoe shop, followed by the gym to sign up for a new membership and then the beauty salon for a fresh spray-tan. Six percent of newly single ladies will even go as far as cosmetic surgery to ease the pain of the split.
Dr Constantino Mendieta is a plastic surgeon in Miami and says one in six women going under his knife are asking specifically for the Pippa Middleton butt-lift, and even bringing that photo of her in that dress into their consultation. Sadly the days of the big, sexy booty may be over.
Most of us argue doggedly that we’re not embarking on these heartbreak-driven journeys of transformation to impress anyone, least of all any jerk of a man who’s going to steal our hearts and screw us over, but instead for our own sense of worth; to get back on top. Yet the study also found the average woman dishes out around 75 bucks to join dating websites to help them get back in the game. It seems our self-esteem and our perceived level of ability to attract members of the opposite sex go hand-in-hand.
Although it’s hard we must try and remind ourselves, and the other precious women in our lives, that a relationship doesn’t end because of our re-growth or saggy butt, and if it did, the guy was a loser anyway. So rather than spending our hard-earned cash on trying to change ourselves we should embrace what we’ve got and relish the single-lady lifestyle while it lasts. It’s what Beyoncé would want.
