One Celebrity Obsession That Really Is A Must-Have
October 4, 2011 No CommentsHave you ever noticed how few student celebrities there are? It seems as though once the bright lights shine upon an actor’s face, all academic goals shoot out the window into oblivion. Academia is just not for everyone.
But it seems that female actors, in particular, are beginning to buck that trend. Tyra Banks enrolled in the Harvard Business School this year, Dakota Fanning is going the traditional route, attending New York University the year after graduating from high school, and Emma Watson famously attended Brown University a few years back and will be attending again in 2012. Natalie Portman infamously attended Harvard University and graduated in the normal four years.
Recently an article came out, discussing Dakota Fanning attending NYU this year and not living on campus but in a fancy apartment next door to John Mayer. She said that she wouldn’t be caught dead in sweatpants, but I digress. Why must it be news when celebrities attend college just like the hundreds of thousands Americans alone that hit the books each year? Big whoop, we all do.
But it’s nice that in addition to their hairstyles and fashion, there are also some things of substance to emulate about these women. If Natalie Portman can find four years to work her ass off academically, so can we all. Heading off to class it can seem annoying to worship celebrities for what we do on a daily basis, but there is something comforting in all of this. Some celebrities are actually role models, in addition to being people too.
PS — And Dakota, you probably won’t wear sweatpants to class — you’ll just wear your pajama bottoms like the rest of us. Good luck!
